Urgently Needed:

Can anyone recommend someone reliable that repairs swimming pool leaks. Swimming pool is losing a lot of water from the ballast.

Has anyone used or tried "Fix a Leak" that Pooltach currently stock? http://www.pooltechcyprus.com/Product/Fix-a-leak /

If you have definitely established that it is the ballast (balance) tank that is leaky, then fine, but as the balance tank 'tops up' the rest of the system, a leak anywhere will result in the ballast tank water level going down...

So, if you're not certain: -

Switch over from 'Overflow' to 'Main Drain'. Leave the pump on its normal timing cycle.

Note the water level in the ballast tank, and in the Pool, and stand a bucket of water on the top step of the pool (on a couple of bricks if necessary, to keep the top of the bucket out of the pool) - mark the water level inside the bucket with a marker pen.

After 2 days, compare the amount that the water level has fallen in the pool and in the bucket - they should be just about the same.

Check the level of water in the balance tank - it should be at the same level as it was when you started the test.

If the water in the balance tank has gone down, then you probably have a leak from the balance tank - it will need repairing, and then re-tanking with a waterproof coating.

If the level in the pool has gone down by more than the level in the bucket, and the level in the balance tank did not actually go up (due to the wind washing some of the pool water into the gulley, and thence into the balance tank) then there may be a leak in the pool itself which you would need to investigate - the areas around pool light fittings are a good starting point, but beyond that, you are looking at removing tiles and looking for cracks!

If the pool water level and the water level in the pool were only slightly different, and the level of water balance tank actually went up slightly (due to wind action) the neither the pool or the balance tank are to blame - the culprit is most likely the gulley.

If the gulley is suspect, remove all of the plastic grilles, and carefully examine the gulley for cracks and missing or flaking sealant, to determine whether the gulley just needs re-coating, or whether it will need structural repairs before doing so.

Thanks for the valuable advice Keith. The balance tank is OK and it seems that it a leak in the pool. I made some enquiries last week and asked about a pressure test and was advised that I would have to empty the pool to carry this out. Which I believe is not necessary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVp62kt ... tml5=False). Can anyone confirm this please?

It seems to me that they (for obvious reasons) are more than happy to rip up your pool and replace tiles etc.... rather than find the leak. Or I'm I just being cynical?
