How lovely to see that the food lodge in Catalkoy is open again. Great to have you back, Sonia, we have missed your bread and pastries.

Went there on Saturday to buy my lovely Dark German rye bread (3!), Dinkel bread (perfect to have with cheese and cold meats), lovely sandwich loaf as well as some perfect doughnuts, went back to Dipkarpaz a happy bunny!!!!
I looked up what 'Dinkel' is and it said 'spelt' - don't know that word and I'm sure I have not seen it in England. Didn't really what it was in German other than a grain a bit like wheat and decided to look it up in English - here it is should you be interested:

I always use spelt in my home baked bread, 100 grams in a 400 gram mix. Its adds a soft springy texture to the bread and helps it stay fresh for longer. Its widely available in the UK not only from major supermarkets but also Aldi now have white and wholemeal spelt flour. But steady with the wholemeal as it tends to make the loaf dry. Shame I have never seen it in NC where I also have a breadmaker.

Long way from Karsiyaka, but lovely coffee and pastries etc. make it well worth while. She's a superb baker and makes exceeding good mulled wine too!!
