how to cash a cheque?

My husband received a cheque from a UK tax office, they charged him too much last year. )))) 21.50 St.

Now the question is how to cash it?

We have tried several banks and only in one we were told that the bank could it BUT it would take 6-8 weeks and they would charge minimum 50 St.

We were told to go to the currency exchange offices but they do not do it.

We do not go to the UK any more, we do not have any friends from the UK coming here.

My husband does not have a bank account in the UK.

Any idea what we could do? Forget it?

I share your problem. I wrote to HMRC seeking their opinion. They advised I could nominate a named UK relative to receive the cheque. This I did and my son received the cheque which he cashed in his bank. I hope this helps.

Many years ago we set up Gateway Accounts for personal tax with HMRC, refund last year was paid directly into our Nationwide account. Quite a simple thing to do, doesn't help with this particular problem but for the future perhaps
