Does anyone who lives here and has a HSBC standard bank account (As far as I am aware premium accounts are not charged) back in the UK get charged a non-sterling cash fee for withdrawing pounds sterling from an ATM machine? It is a long story but when I kicked up a fuss about it, I was refunded all the charges. Now it is happening again and I am considering going through the banking ombudsman complaint procedure. If anyone else is affected by this I would be very interested to hear from them. In the first instance if they send me a private message with contact details I will get back to them.

I have a HSBC advance account and don't get any charges when drawing sterling from an ATM if that helps?
Maybe change your type of account?

I have a first direct account, part of HSBC and I don’t get charged for sterling from atm. My husband doesn’t from his HSBC one either. However if we pay by card for purchases there is a small charge for converting from lira to £.

So do you think that it is saying that drawing STERLING from a foreign ATM is a STERLING TRANSACTION or a NON-STERLING TRANSACTION?

It only mentions WITHDRAWALS and doesn't differentiate between LOCAL and STERLING....

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear enough? I always withdraw pounds sterling from an ATM here in North Cyprus. On my statement it shows X amount pounds sterling withdrawn and then shows a deduction of X amount for the amount withdrawn as being a NON-STERLING TRANSACTION!

The way I read it was other HSBC accounts would be charged 2%( min £1.75 max £5) for sterling cash withdrawals

All I know is I don't get charged on my HSBC Advance account for sterling drawn from a North Cyprus ATM, do it all the time

no mention of cash fee on Premier or Advance accounts only Other
