Re: Happy Valley
Have just spoken to Riaz from the Happy Valley, & he told me that every one is ok, no one was hurt.
But sadly due to fire damage he is going to have to close for two weeks.

Re: Happy Valley
Depends on what you are looking for in a restaurant. If you go for pretension and glamour, no doubt it is not for you, and the ambience is nothing to write home about. But the service is always pleasant, and the food is good, and the menu, if not extensive, sufficiently varied to suit different tastes. The fish and chips are brilliant. But I should not praise it too much, or everyone will go, and it will be spoilt like so many places that became popular.
I had Italian visitors a couple of years ago a couple and their two grandsons, and we tried several different types of eating place. The elders are sophisticated travellers and diners, children are children everywhere are can be fussy about food. I sensed disappointment at several places that are generally popular but the one all of us voted to return to for the last evening was Happy Valley.

Re: Happy Valley
Shocked to hear the news as we are regulars when in the TRNC. Glad all is ok.
In terms of good restaurants it does depend what you want....the place has good food, great service and everyone is very pleasant. It is by no means sophisticated and probably not the choice for a very special romantic occasion but it is certainly good value anytime.

I think actually "customer service" is the expression I am looking, for - it is an oxymoron in so many places everywhere nowadays, but Riaz does try and without making a song and dance about it!

Agree with other Posters that quality of food was always consistantly good as was the friendly service.
Hope they DO get up and running again.

Re: Happy Valley
It used (and as far as I know still is) owned by a Turkish Cypriot who used to live near Happy VAlley at Episkopi for those who know or knew the latter.
For a while it was run by an Irish couple, and Riaz has kept some of the Leprechaun motifs they introduced. The interior dining/bar area is pretty basic, . Outside is fairly spacious with tables not too close together screened from the road by a thick hedge and sheltered in summer by a grapevine, it seems to catch the sun in winter so outside daytime eating can be extended longer than many.
Most restaurants in the TRNC used to be like this - very basic but good food and service, with only a few offering more "luxury" for special occasions. Personally I preferred it, although Riaz might take the opportunity for a lick of paint to brighten it upa bit .

The T C owner Hassan died 2 years ago but I believe it is still owned by his family I often used to chat to him there when he came to pick the grapes.

Great to hear you will soon be up and running again, Riaz. Was lovely to see how all the boys rallied round for the clear up. The heat must have been very fierce judging by the size that fridge ended up. So glad you were all ok. See you soon.
