What is the light?

On the mountain top above Catalkoy, between Buffavento and the next mountain top towards Girne there is a bright white light showing!

Have not seen it before tonight and it is stationary so nothing to do with helicopters or little green men - lol.

Anyone know what it is?

Nobody else seen it? It was still there when we went to bed at 23:00 but not there this morning at 06:00 but will look again tonight - strange but not worrying.

I may be wrong and stand corrected but is it not Army residence of some description?

oldham, across the other side of the mountain for sure there is/used to be a large army presence but not sure if they are still there. However, the light was well above the skyline and the army are well below the skyline as seen from Catalkoy so I don't think that is it. At first I thought is was a helicopter hovering with his large lamp on whilst searching, my binoculars are old and tatty so I could not make it out fully, but no helicopter I know of out here could haver for over three hours so I discounted that. The only thing I can think of is that it is a light shining on the Turkish Flag set into the Southern mountainside but I thought that was further towards Girne than the light? Looking at Google Earth today it seems we are in very much a line with the flag, so maybe, depending on the hight of the other range behind the first one?

There's a large tower(more of a pole really) with a light on, built in the grounds of Lesland much higher than the Ferris wheel maybe your light is part of a system of aviation warning lights.

Lesland is below us and the pole is more of a lightning rod than aviation warning light even though it has the proper RED lamp at it's top. The light I saw was bright white so would not be for aviation warning. There was nothing there last night but - with my rubbish set of very old bino's, I think I can see a cairn or something like it where the light was. Now too old to go wandering up in the hills to find out so will search for a new set of bino's or a spotting scope instead - lol. Have also noticed that the two flags that used to fly on the hillside have now gone as well but the steel sculpture is still there along with the flagpoles - maybe holes in the road take greater priority?

Waldo, as I have said previously, I do chuckle on reading your posts……..fishing is going well (thanks to your generosity, you are indeed a good man. I might even give you one of my TG11 sport shirts, with collar naturally!).

Don’t think the lights are Starlink satellites so perhaps a village bbq get together?

No light for the last couple of nights and thanks to a most generous person I now have a set of excellent binoculars that have made so much of a difference it is hard to explain, suffice to say that what I thought was a cairn (Msg 6 of this thread) turned out to be a bush, the wonders of modern binocular technology have opened my eyes - lol.

So, the only thing I can put it all down to was a temporary erection of a lighting (not lightning) pole during the very recent search and rescue operation in the TRNC - it seems that operation has taken over from what was the Taurus annual exercise of yesteryear, when we were also allowed to watch and mingle on the final day up at Hilarion! Shame that the Greeks moaned and winged so much that they cancelled it to keep the peace.

That's it folks, the mystery of the light remains but watch this space, as armed with binoculars that I can actually see things with, you never know what I will come up with next!!!
