Recommendation for repair and painting of wooden shutters?

Hello All,

Has anyone had experience of having wooden window & door shutters repaired and repainted? Most of ours have joints that are coming apart, and need to be properly sanded down and repainted. I'm tempted to do it myself, but it would take me a long time, and I know that the terraces would be covered in flaked paint and sawdust, and that my Wife would be on my case after a few days.

Ideally, I'd like some one to come to check the fit of the shutters, and measure the frames, before taking the shutters away for repair.

Any recommendations, or advice, would be greatly appreciated.

I'll keep my eye on this as mine need attention as well.

Doing mine myself; stripping old paint, repair, fill, undercoat and glossing. Taking my time and enjoying the work. Gosh, would offer this service too, but have my hands full and wish to remain semi-retired.

I am sure you will soon get many offers to do the works from tradesmen on this forum. Good luck.

I use Osman who has a carpentry shop in Lapta. He speaks English and his phone number is 0533 860 1218. He has both repaired and made new shutters for me and always paints them. Really nice guy.

Thanks Agobard, I'll give Osman a call.

Thanks also Soner, but it looks as though our tradesmen don't fancy the job.

HH if you can't find anyone to do the job, and you are not in a hurry, send me a PM, maybe I can help.
MnM, you may have to get me that hat rack.

Thanks for the offer, Soner, but I think that I'll have to do the work myself - it may help me shift a few Kilos, if nothing else.

Take your time and work on a pair of shutters at a time. I have stripped old paint, I found wood rotten in places and very dry and have experimented by mixing Cupinol with White Spirit (50/50) and brushing on to the bad and bare areas. Left for a day then filled damaged areas with wood filler. Have now sanded down by hand and will coat with multi primer (undercoat) before glossing. Pretty pleased with results so far.

Good luck and don't rush. Play some music whilst working, time will fly.
