If you haven't registered and signed your contract, then you need to call in at Turkcell to do so - it only takes a few minutes.

Also, If you have been away for a while you may need to put some credit on it to reactivate it - just put the minimum amount on - it's around 10TL, and you will then regain any credit that was left on it from before, but if you've got to call in at Turkcell anyway, wait until you've spoken to them.

There's a Turkcell shop at Ercan, but be aware that they have "previous" for over-charging, as I found out, on my return on the 1st of November, when they charged me 150 TL for a one-month package, which I renewed for 95 TL last Friday in Girne. The assistant in Girne told me that they had received many similar complaints of over-charging by the Ercan outlet. It's possible that part of the "extra" charges were for the latest "registration" of my phone/SIM.

Laconic in Girne are Turkcell agents. They registered my sim-card without any fuss and they speak good English.

I usually use the Turkcell shop near theHirondelle (Elektrokur) roundabout, because there is a parking area to the rear, and the staff are fairly quick and obliging, but I'm given to understand that anywhere that displays a Tukcell sign can do it - provided that they have a stock of the required forms, that is!

Have had pre paid Turkcell for many years. Have phoned which was purchased here and both phone and sim has been registered. Due to current situation we have been unable UK for several months. Have just got back here and Turkcell tell us our account has been deactivated and to keep the same number we will have to go onto contract. I thought that as long as phone and sim were registered that it would just reactivate after a number of months. Anyone else had this experience? TIA
