Can anyone explain how the driving Licence penalty point systems works

IE how many points do you collect before a ban? and how long do they take before they drop on your licence, and how do you know how many points you have.

Many thanks

Thomas

For accurate info, visit the traffic department at the police station opposite Wednesday Market in Girne, it used to be just inside the main entrance.

I found this but don't know how up-to-date it is, translated from Turkish :

One of the measures taken is the speed detection cameras on the roads. However, most people can get either a fine or a point fine because they're caught up in speed and hit the radar. Starting from the date of the first penalty score of a driver, within 15 months to fill out 100 penalty points in the first place 3 months of driving license is confiscated. After the driver gets his license at the end of three months, the 15-month process starts again. During this period, the person who again received a 100-point penalty, this time losing his license temporarily for 6 months. The third 100-point penalty is canceled for a year license. If the person gets his license back and gets back, if he gets a penalty of less than 100 points in the re-started 15-month period, his sentence is reset at the end of 15 months. Point penalties are written to the person's household since the date of the crime.

From September 2019:

The post new penalties are as follows:

DRIVING UNLICENSED VEHICLES 3400 TL

USING ALCOHOLIC VEHICLES (IF OVER 100 MILLGRAM) 3400 TL

EXCEEDING SPEED LIMIT UP TO 20 KM 340 TL

BREAKING BETWEEN 20 AND 40 KM 510 TL

EXCEEDING MORE THAN 40 KM 850 TL

USING A VEHICLE WITHOUT PLATE 510 TL

INSPECTION AND NON-NAVIGATION VEHICLES 340 TL

DRIVING UNDER THE IMPRESSION OF DRUGS 1700 TL

TALKING WITH MOBILE PHONE 340 TL

EAT AND DRINK DURING DRIVING 340 TL

INSTALLING ADDITIONAL PROTECTORS TO THE FRONT BUMPER 1700 TL

TAXI WITHOUT TAXIMETER 1700 TL

UNAUTHORIZED ENGINE, CHASSIS, BODY CHANGE 1360 TL

This link also gives the number of penalty points you receive with each fine but you'll need to translate it :

Really good post that one! If only the police would be more proactive this country could be swimming in fines collected, then they could invest in a car crushing plant and with a simple law "TALKING WITH MOBILE PHONE 340 TL, THIRD OFFENCE - CAR CRUSHED" they could reduce traffic by on the roads by 95% - lol.

Or just get a “friend” (ie well-meaning mug) to take some of the points for you.

Don’t ask

Got my mud flaps - keep them in the boot in the plastic bag with the fitting kit, just not had time in the last 8 years to fit them to the two different cars I have had, but will do so soon - honest!

That reminds me of a few years ago my other half went in to pay a speeding fine but had (conveniently ) forgotten his driving licence, the police officer was quite happy to add the points to my licence - yes I'm that mug
