Any one know if I can plug in a turkish keyboard to use with my uk laptop?

I use a Turkish WIFI keyboard with my laptop, this helps when we are watching programs on the tv via HDMI cable.
It will take a bit of getting used to.

thanks I just need to write in turkish sometimes to reply to messages but obviously my english keyboard doesnt have the correct punctuations.

I had no problems,Denıse......rememberıng the iiiiiii or ııııııı was ınıtıal problem especıally on passwords.......new passports I(or İ)don't use

Yes, you can!

If you want to type any of the 'Special' Turkish characters, ı ğ ü l ş ö ç then you will need to go to Start>Control Panel> languages, and choose to 'add' Turkish (there are 2 options - go for 'Q', as it retains most of the familiar 'Querty' keyboard layout).

Once you have done that, a little icon will appear in the bottom right hand section of your screen (in the general area where the time etc. is displayed) which allows you to toggle between English and Turkish. When I forget to change back, I often only realise when I notice that none of my 'i' characters have got dots!

It's probably easier than I've made it sound, so don't be frightened to try it.

It even works without plugging a Turkish keyboard in, but you do have to remember which key produces which character (or cheat, and print out the Turkish keyboard layout, so that you can consult it).

To toggle between En and TR use Alt Shift together...

I have a Turkish keyboard, not an English one! The English letters are in the same place anyway and because I am a touch typist I dont need to look at the letter keys.. I do in Turkish so I have the layout of both languages stuck above my desk.

The problem I have , particularly when I first started, is that some of the of the punctuation keys are not in the place (the ones in upper case of the figures) are not where I learned them on a manual typewriter? I have a theory the Turkish keyboard is adapted from an American, rather than and English model, but would be interested in comments. It is very hard re learning automatic memory - like switching the lights on a new car instead of the windscreen wipers!

RR - When I'm driving someone else's car, I'm forever flashing my windscreen wipers at people!

I do agree with you about the position of the punctuation keys on Turkish keyboards being a pain, but I've no idea whether your theory re. American layout is correct.

OK someone has got to say it! Just so long as it is your windscreen wipers you flash, otherwise you could add a whole new dimension to the hazards of driving in Northern Cyprus
