The TRNC governments should learn from other countrys mistakes.

I hope not quite as bad as that, but I do agree with your statement, yes they should take note and learn, but the way building is going at the moment in TRNC . You have point.

I think its called PROGRESS , (in some peoples eyes)

If it makes money for dodgy developers, and a lot of us have had experience of these, then it will happen.

Sadly, can anybody name a 'westernised' Med-bordering country where this has not happened? Greed and corruption is not confined to the TRNC, as I seem to recall Spanish and RoC scandals on bogus property developments.

It used to be the boast and main tourist attractions of North Cyprus that it had the only remaining stretch of unspoiled coastline and ecology in the Med. That was before 2004. Killling the goose that laid the golden egg, and selling a birthright for a mess of pottage springs to mind.

It happened to Varosha - it was a concrete jungle! - and that was 40 years ago...

I understand that Varosha (pre 1974) also suffered from "five o'clock shadow" - ie the beach lost the sun in the later afternoon.

When will they ever learn

The 15 or so miles bewtween; Acupulco and the Lapta Strip,is totally unrecognisable from what was present in the 1980s. It has taken less than 30 years to saturate this thin strip of "prime Real Estate". If a Political solution is forthcoming I can see "wotnodeeds" picture being reality in about 15 years.

'Mahatma Ghandi" (loose translation ) ' enough in the world for every man's need, never enough for all of his greed . Nothing more needs to be said.
Sure you all will though

Brit expats have been agitating for years to "modernise" Kyrenia and have had their way with the development of many partly occupied eyesores all over the north!!
Of course all will be up in arms and deny this but it's a fact and we are returning each year to find the place a little more spoilt each year.
You reap what you sow!!!!!

5 years after the free-for-all starts, you won't recognise the place!

At least you didn't mark me on my spelling

It was the RELATIVE slow pace of development that was so very attractive about North Cyprus. If there is a Political Solution, I would imagine all sorts of International Investors will be itching to make their millions.
The vast majority of Tourists and Retirees in Europe are searching for TRANQUILITY and a "Feeling of Freedom" away from the Ratrace and a Hardworking Life. Any Government that takes this into account is "On a Winner" especially if they depend exclusively on Tourism.
