Does anyone know if this going to open this summer. Have been down there and it's looks so sad. Would be a shame for the area if it's not going to open.

Speaking to the owner of the beach who said it will open in the next few Weeks
It is looking a bit more tidy but still a lot to do

Always a bit of a 'last minute effort'

Because the beach faces West, the prevailing winds cause a huge build-up of seaweed every year, which must cost quite a lot to shift, and I suspect that (as the beach is named after the owner/lessee, Mehmet Diana ), and there is not a lot of profit involved in running the beach as a commercial concern, there is a conflict between the 'prestige' of 'owning' the beach, and the cost of running it...

He usually does get it up and running though

This year the rains have washed a great pit where the entrance track used to be a metre deep and 70 cm's wide.... that will take a bit of sorting.

That was my point Groucho. Those trenches alone a gonna take a week to fill and prepare for access. Also the restaurant is empty, very few beds and umbrellas..... Also the toilet block has been vandalised. But happy days if he can pull it off.....

Didn't he have big plans at one time, to build a hotel or resort of some kind?

I thought that it was just the usual Cypriot 'Pipe dream', but who knows...perhaps...???

I hope you are right about the "Pipe Dream" Keith.

Perhaps he would get more custom if he improved the cafe, just a little . No need for a "makeover - itt is quite nice as it is - but last time I went there were only only fizzy canned drinks. And no Ayran - how difficult is that to make, even I can do it! And only greasy fast food. A heartattack, obesity and at least indigestion in one simple package! Why not be really innovative and specialise in Cypriot food: "packet" kebabs for instance.

If the weather forecast for next week turns out to be right , it looks as though the owner (and other beaches not yet cleaned) knew something we didnt , A good thunderstorm would have undone all their hard work! Spring really is late this year.

It's still under construction - getting rapidly more massive as each week passes... The construction process is not slowing down either, seems more and more urgency is evident... I reckon next year it will open...

Not sure if there is meant to be a water-park but can't see much going for it if it doesn't have one - given the rumour that it will be a strictly dry, segregated hotel complex with no casino....

I asked someone who works at the Tapu about the hotel on Lara beach. It is owned by a Turkish man who has his own tourist group and owns his own airline group..it will be a casino...

Ah Cyprus - you've got to love the rumour mill....I couldn't see how such a large construction could ever pay its way if it had no mixed accommodation, no booze and no casino... Which ever way it turns out it's very very large. given that other hotels complain about low-occupancy how will the others spin this? No doubt it wil all be the fault of Brits letting their villas out....

Any idea which airline group this billionaire owns?

Don't know about the airline but the tourism group is ETS - one of Turkey's largest.

ETS is owned by the brothers Ersoy who own Atlasjet.

In August 2012, AtlasGlobal Airlines contracted Ryan International Airlines (NB not Ryanair), a US airline, to operate religious pilgrimage flights to cities such as Medina and Tel Aviv. In January 2013 AtlasGlobal failed to fulfill the payments to Ryan International, which prompted the termination of the co-operation without advance notice. Ryan International Airlines, already in a bankruptcy reorganization process, was not able to recover from the loss and therefore faced impending financial difficulties, which led to its liquidation

It's the Lara Park Hotel. Owned by the ETS/Atlasjet group. Due to open in a few months.
1,500 rooms, Casino etc etc. They've brought in thousands of tons of sand for a larger beach.

5 min promo video here:

If that is a "promotional" video They need to have a word with the pr dept, it looks like a cross between a hospital and a shopping centre.

I too have heard the rumours of Atlas Jet plus a segregated section for ladies only. Who knows?
It's a gigantic construction and when finished you'll need a sat nav to get round it.
I feel for the folk who bought villas opposite who once had a beautiful beach across the road
My concern is when all the lights go on all ours will go out!!!

My thoughts exactly except it looks too sterile for a UK hospital these days! (Joke)

I can't see the need for the capacity and given its proximity to Acapulco, it's got to be struggling for numbers. I see no water-park in the video just a large pool...

I think they will fill it by offering cheap flight/hotel deals for Turk mainlanders.
They are working on other areas of the site, especially the promontary to the W of the hotel block.
The overall plan looks like being 'all singing all dancing'!

My concerns are about the increased traffic it will produce, it's already a slow slog in summer behind coaches going to & from Acapulco.
There has been mentioned a plan to convert the Essentepe road to a dual carriageway, which might be part of the plan for new roads which mean Edener are moving.

I would personally prefer if this development was not happening, but for the economy and local businesses, from restaurants to car hire firms, it's a boost.

If there IS any Cyprus resolution, this will be the start of many such developments.

I can't see this development bringing in anything to businesses or restaurants as I can see it being an all inclusive place and tourists staying there will not leave, these Hotels have been set up in Turkey and local businesses have lost out. This one at Lara is a blot on the landscape in my opinion.
