It was good when it was Medikent but it has changed hands since I was there (& also my friend) so sorry cannot give an up to date opinion.
However isn't it a bit sudden to find out you have to have an an op tomorrow?
Obviously I do not know your circumstances but don't forget that all the hospitals here are basically medical businesses - it is possible they might recommend surgery when it is not the best option.
Have you had a second opinion? Please forgive me if you have total confidence in the advice you have been given.

I had an opperation on one of my ears, the staff were wonderful and I recovered with out any problems.
This is a good hospital as far as the surgeons are concerned, do not have any worries.

not being nosey, but what op. do you need, and who is doing it. It all depends on the surgeon. My hubby broke his back and heel, he had a wonderful surgeon, Dr Errol Bahcin, I'd trust him with my life after what he did with my husband, also Dr kocuk operated on his heel at the same time, both, I would highly recommend.
Hope this helps, wish you all the best.x
Oohps, another edit.... if you go to Lefcosia state hospital, they do the ops. there too. Much cheaper as you aren't paying for a four star room, which is nice if you're in for a long stay.

Please take on board the information you have received from ozankoys in message 2.
I am not suggesting for one minute that the Kolan is not the correct hospital as I have not used it however I would always (unless urgency takes over) seek a second opinion or even a 3rd opinion if needed.
These hospitals are businesses therefore it is not like going to the NHS in the UK.

I totally agree with message 6. Private Hospitals are there to make money and people can give you glowing reports for them all if their treatment was successful. Also remember that most of the surgents work in the state system as well' In our case the hospital and staff were fine, but the surgeon was a dead loss and operation a failure.

The best medical care that we have had here has been at Near East. They have excellent specialists and the very best equipment and facilities. What lets them down though is their admin but get a written price from them before you have an operation there. If you go to NEU, ring Nicole 0533-8231439. She is a kind of go between helping out foreign patients and is indeed very helpful. Have had a couple of dealings with Kolan and wouldn't go near them again.

Seek a second opinion. My brother was told he needed to go to Turkey for an op on his back a few years ago, luckily he went for a second opinion and was told it was completely unnecessary and instead had a few weeks of laser, etc and it was fine. At Kolan I was correctly diagnosed and quoted 5-6000TL for an op - went to Lefkosa State Hospital and it cost 1600TL. Nearly all the surgeons in private hospitals also have to work in the State hospitals. Ask around for recommendations based on your ailment, it's likely that someone here can give you advice.

I was going to the Kolan from August to October last year steadily getting worse, before not knowing what else to do, the doctor sent me to the Near East hospital. There I saw a Dr Shorbaghi who was brilliant and within a month I was back to good health. The Kolan also sent me down to a Famagusta Hospital to have a none invasive stent put in that cost £2000 so please have a second opinion.

I had a week in Kolan after I contracted Lyme Disease from a bit from an infected tic. I cannot fault it at all. The room was cleaned twice a day, food provided, which was very nice, and visitors got it too if they happened to be there. I cannot fault the care either. I would not hesitate to use it again.

You will receive many comments about the good and bad of hospitals on here, personally I prefer the Near East but many readers would not agree with me however I stand by original suggestion of getting a second opinion before embarking on any medical treatment here unless of course it is an emergency.

Re: British Kolan Hoapital Lefkosa
Our experience in January at Kolan is excellent! My mother was suffering from back pain for many years and got to the point painkillers no longer worked. Went to Kolan on Friday, after investigations they offered operation next day but we opted for Monday. Over night stay, operation, all meds, meals & drinks including me staying and all my meals and my own bed and linen, follow up appointments and freedom of pain and able to walk within no time at all........6000 tl...
I agree with second opinion but I can not speak highly enough of this hospital but maybe it depends what the operation is on.....good luck I hope you get great results like we did.....
