Re: bringing cash in
There is no limit to the ammount, but if you are leaving the UK there is, check out the UK regs.
We use HSBC to transfare cash from the UK into our HSBC account here.

Be careful , there are still currency restrictions in place in the South because of the financial situation there,

Re: bringing cash in
In 2006 I came out to furnish my new property here. I checked at Barclays bank and they told me !0,000 euros was ok.
I had £9.000 on me when I arrived at Stansted Airport. When I went through security I was stopped and asked to empty my bag. I was repeatedly asked why I had that amount of cash on me, why I had two cameras, why I had two mobile phones and why I needed two pens!!! I was made to feel like a criminal in front of everyone else who were going through security. I asked to be interviewed in a private room but this was denied and the envelope with the cash in was emptied and counted in front of me. Fortunately I had receipts proving I had drawn it out of Barclays Bank two days earlier. After an hour I was told I could go, no apologies no nothing. When we eventually moved here permenantly, we transferred our cash by writing a cheque and clearing it through Turk Bank. It did take 3 weeks to clear but no charges were made. You will probably have no problems but make sure you have receipts from the bank with you.

Re: bringing cash in
Yes a few years ago had 8k in sterling on me .
Walked through then the dog ,yes a dog that's sniffs cash just stood there at me in the lounge of manchester airport .
Ding dong ,cracked myself as everybody watched on .
They quizzed me there and then and said he was cash dog etc .
I explained why I needed it and had my with withdrawal slip from the day before and off I went .
The experience ,well left me sweating every time I have 200 fags over

Re: bringing cash in
Ok just to clear up a few things that have been mentioned here.
UKBA (not security) will ask you questions about where the money has come from and its intended use on leaving the UK if you are carrying more than aabout £1000 per person, carry proof of where the money has come from, I brought £6000 with me in March which was from the sale of my car in the UK, I kept with me the change of ownership DVLA paperwork but if it has come from a bank make sure you have the bank statement showing the withdrawal. This is due to money leaving the country for less than legal uses. If you can not prove where the money has come from then it could be detained pending further investigation and you may have to prove in court where it has come from.
UKBA do have cash detector dogs and they are very successful.
Arriving into North Cyprus the maximum cash is 10,000 euros per person. You are arriving into North Cyprus whether you fly into Ercan or into Larnaka and then cross the border. To be safe stay below the limit.
