Re: Cork Or Screw Cap
I was totally against screw tops and for years I was a "it must be cork" until I went in to the plastic industry and learned that an awful lot of the so called corks were in fact made of plastic to resemble cork. I must admit there is something rather satisfying about pulling out a cork, but even drink "bags" out here, when I'd never have done so back in the UK.

Cork but no corkscrew?
Not a problem! With a strong thumb, teaspoon handle, pencil etc, you can push the cork down into the bottle.
Wine boxes,.... "keeps fresh for 6 weeks after opening",.....???? They having a laugh? Never tested it. Mine all seem to be empty within days!

Re: Cork Or Screw Cap
Screw top should only be used on wines upto 3-4 years old, anything older should use a cork. Many vineyards went across to screw top due to the worldwide shortage of cork a few years back.
As advised when wine tasting at 2 Kent vineyards last year.

Depends who your referring about ! Why don't you go and offer them some of your professional advise on how to store their wines, some are never too old to learn.SKYBLUESAM wrote:Screwtop , as none of the "wine-merchants, supermarkets here know how to store wine with corks here!
Good to know most sway towards screw caps as more and more wines are coming through with screw caps.Chablis,NZ Crystal Bay,Faustino Range and some great German whites and even some good French wines.

I personally think it is great that so many wine estates are moving towards screw caps. A lot of Russian customers at the moment are very cautious when it comes to screw caps and say the wine must be not of a good quality or could be fake
But of course they are wrong .

Re: Cork Or Screw Cap
They will at lowest be free from the taint of fusty cork or even worse corks so dry they will not extract at all! I had to ditch a bottle of wine last year simply because the cork was so dry it would not budge and crumbled at all attempts to extract it breaking two bottle openers in the process....bargainboozeandwines wrote:A lot of Russian customers at the moment are very cautious when it comes to screw caps and say the wine must be not of a good quality or could be fake

Bottom line - it's the flavour that counts - not the price, not the label and definitely not the cork..
This extra hour for daylight saving is a bugger... it only serves to delay my first glass of the day! Banish the wretched thing I say..

I agree on the price and label, and of course the flavour.
Breaking 2 bottle openers, you need a good quality parrot opener.
