There is a lovely man who does super work in Karaoglanoglu, just around the corner from the Post Office. He will repair belts, handbags, suitcase etc as well. Have been going to him for 11 years and he's never let me down yet.

Yes, his sign says, lunch 12 until 2, but he does have a tendency to close about 5 mins before hand and open about 10 mins after. Depends how busy he is, but don't let that put you off!!!

Re: Shoe repairer
On the subject of shoes. Is there any shoemakers in Girne who will hand make shoes? I have very wide feet and find it almost impossible to buy shoes locally. I bought a pair of driving shoes which I thought would be ok but they are really tight. It would be great to have a pair made to measure with these as a pattern.

Geoff,
the gentleman in Karaoglanoglu mentioned above can make shoes, he made me some tap shoes earlier in the year, I took in my old shoes and he used them as a model but then asked me to go in for a fitting as well to make sure they were the right fit. I can't remember the exact price but they were under 300 TL. He took around 5 days to make them.

diver, thanks for that I will drive over and go to see him next week. Years ago I worked in Sri Lanka and had a couple of pairs hand made, they were like wearing slippers. Thanks again Geoff.

Geoff1121 I agree re man in Karaoglanoglu. Am going to get him to make me some winter shoes this year. I saw some of his work last year i.e suede desert boot type and they were extremely good.

Thanks to all who responded to my message, in particular Sophie who mentioned a man in Karaoglanoglu . I went there, he did what I wanted, great. Very good to see the old craftsmen working still although I suspect when he goes, that will be it !
