How to Stop a Mosquito Bite from Itching Using a Spoon

Forget all those expensive over the counter remedies.

Well my daughter told me this and it works for me.

Take a spoon and heat it up in boiling water for a few minutes. Take the hot spoon and dab it on the bite until comfortable (not so it is burning you!). When you feel you can take the heat from the spoon on your skin press it against the bite for a minute or so. The itch should go away after a few minutes.

Also worked for me on other insect bites (including sand flies).

Having had quite a lot of these already I have been looking at ways to prevent them in the first place or at least deal with the bites.

I use the hot spoon method and it takes away the itch for a few hours, sometimes for ever on most of my bites. I don't leave the spoon in the water for a few minutes, just dip it in. Be careful not to blister your skin - I have done that on a couple of occasions when using the spoon when it was too hot. Hot water in the shower also works.

If I have no anti bite to hand a dab of any toothpaste relieves the itch. Only problem is unlike anti bite cream it leaves a residue similar to calamine lotion ,but certainly relieves the itch to save you from scratching it.

Another solution:

This may sound too good to be true, but I assure you it works. The next time you get bit by a mosquito, put a piece of scotch tape over the bite, and it will stop itching immediately. If you are like me and your mosquito bites tend to grow to the size of a quarter, use 2 or 3 overlapping pieces so it is completely covered.

Now you may find yourself in a situation where you don't have any clear tape. "What should I do then?" You might ask. Well I have good news for you, you can grab any sticky tape-like material and it will work. Duct tape, electrical tape, the sticky parts of band aids, medical tape, packing tape, painter's tape, princess stickers, and even fruit stickers will work.

Place these on top of the itchy area and leave them there for a day or two. When you remove them, all signs of the bite will be gone.

Why do we always refer to a "bite" when we know perfectly well the little horrors don't "bite" us. I'm just as guilty as everyone else I might add.

They pierce, spit and suck, surely biting would be preferable.
