We have a lovely 2 year old rescue dog named Betsy who desperately needs a new loving home. We love her, but she is not a good fit for our family. We have three young girls, the youngest now just turning one year old. As Betsy has grown, her exuberant personality has too! While she is quite well behaved around the adults in our home, she becomes very excited with our little ones, jumping on them in play and has caused them several injuries. As she is strong for her size, we are very worried about this.
Due to past experiences with taunting strangers and aggressive dogs, she is very afraid of unknown people and other dogs and becomes quite agitated around them. She does, however, warm up to strangers who are kind to her, though it may take her some time. We have been working to expose her slowly to more strangers and have seen some improvement and hope that her next family will continue this training.
She is truly a sweet little dog and loves nothing more than to sit beside you and be petted, but for her sake and the sake of our children, she needs a more calm home with older children or adults to love her. She loves to take walks, chase balls, and chew bones. She has up to this point lived mainly in our garden for her pleasure as well as the safety of our kids but spends part of her time in our house as well. She is very smart and learns quickly. She knows basic commands such as sit, come, and stay (a big challenge for her, but we are trying!).
