Hi

Had anyone come across situation when the permission to purchase had been refused and no other person but property owner could reapply? Apart from opening a trust company would there be any interest/need to approach the current administration of TRNC in order to have those issues resolved? Does anyone feel a strong need or help to do that? Asking for a friend. Thanks

We were refused PTP as we were too close to an army camp (despite being assured by the estate agent that wouldn't be a problem). The estate agent applied for our PTP 'only 'charging us £500 knowing full well it would be refused. The years dragged on with 'no news yet' and eventually we went to the government office to ask for ourselves only to be told PTP had been refused because we were' too close to an army camp' and we should 'sell and buy somewhere else'.

We tried again using Pembe, at her Citizens Advice office (before she suddenly & quietly left NC). She applied again on our behalf but it was again refused. She then spoke to and then went with us to see a government minister in person to plead our case but was told he couldn't do anything for us because 'we were too close to an army camp.'

You are allowed to live in a property near an army camp for years, see what happens 24/7, look at it on Google earth even but are deemed too dangerous it appears to actually have your name on a piece of paper (kocan) saying you own the property.

I was refused permission to purchase at a time when all pre 74 properties were being denied. Not sure this is still the case but it really is a gamble. Looked into putting the deeds in our lawyers name but was never sure this was safe considering the corruption and poor legal safeguards. Found that the administration costs were also ridiculous. In the end sold up and although North Cyprus will remain in our hearts we feel we had a lucky escape. Can you not get PTP first before committing to buy?
