vodafone bundle

Post by frugal90 »

I have bought a vodafone bundle from the ukfor my forthcoming trip.

I have 200 minutes and unlimited texts and 1GB data. It now includes Turkey and that includes North Cyprus.

My questions using this mobile are:

If I am calling from UK to North Cyprus what do I call is it 00 90 then drop the 0?

If I am calling from Istanbul airport to TRNC what is the code to use

If I am calling whilst in TRNC to a local number what code do I use.

Sorry to be a pain but don't use mobiles very often .

thanks for any help you may be able to give me with this

In all these situations you will have to use the international dialing code, e.g. 0090 533 123 4567 because your home network is in the UK. You'll never be wrong if you do this. I save all numbers with the international code and then it works whether I have a Turkish or UK SIM.

Yes
frugal90 wrote:If I am calling from Istanbul airport to TRNC what is the code to use
There is no 'international code' (00 anything). For a TRNC mobile you just use the mobile number including the starting 0. For a TRNC landline you use 0392 (the Turkish 'regional' code for TRNC)
frugal90 wrote:If I am calling whilst in TRNC to a local number what code do I use.
Same as above (as in Istanbul airport)

Can someone clarify.
If my home network is the in the UK and my phone is from the UK but I want to use my phone for longer than 90 days in TRNC do I have to register my UK phone, or does a phone need to be registered if it is only using a local network
supplier in the TRNC.

As I understand it a sim from a UK network supplier that is 'roaming' on the trnc networks does not require the phone to be registered at all. It is only phones using either a telsim or turkcell sim that require such after 90 days.

From Vodafone website:

How do I make calls when roaming?

If you’re calling from another country using your UK Vodafone mobile, you’ll need to enter an international dialling code at the start of every number. Each country has its own code, starting with +. For example, it’s +44 to call the UK, and +33 to call France. You’ll also need to drop the first ‘0’.

So instead of calling 01632 960123, you’d call +44 1632 960123.
And instead of calling 07700 900123, you’d call +44 7700 900123.

Note: if you’re roaming and want to call a number within the country you’re visiting, you’ll still need to use its international dialling code. For example, if you’re in Paris, calling a local number, you’ll have to begin dialling with +33.

Just to avoid further confusion + is the same as 00, so +90 is same as 0090

Vodafone changes from 10th May 2018

On 10 May 2018, we’ll be making changes to our roaming destinations.
Changes for Pay monthly customers
42 of our Rest of the World destinations will become Roam-further destinations.
This will mean that for £6 a day you’ll be able to take your home plan of data,
minutes and texts with you in even more places worldwide.
We’ll also be moving Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey from Roam-free
to Roam-further. This means that all usage in these countries will also be charged
at £6 a day.

These changes will affect all new and existing Pay monthly customers from 10 May 2018

The only UK network provider I can find that provides a service to Northern Cyprus at no extra cost is Sky mobile

Northern Cyprus is included Turkey is excluded

http://www.sky.com/shop/roaming/

Good for anyone that has an existing sky package non sky customers have to pay an extra £10 per month in addition to chosen data plan

I am sorted for this trip with my bundle

what would be the best idea for my longer stay in the autumn- Oct/Nov

can I buy a local sim and credit cheaper?

also how could I keep that sim live if I don't use it for say 4 or 5 months until the next spring, would the credit and number be lost

thanks all

Copied from a service announcement: -
Discounted Star Mini Package! 50 onnet minutes, 50 minutes & 500 SMS towards local lines & Turkey and 500 MB is only for 29 TL / 446 units monthly instead of 35 TL / 538 units. Text STAR MINI to 5588 and start using package with your special discount.

You can top up your sim card online, the 'phone doesn't need to be in TRNC or even turned on, so add the minimum credit online every 90 days - 9TL I think, and you're sorted!

Keith, is this turkcell?

So I could setup a direct debit for 29 TL per month then every month do an online top up.

How easy is it to do a 9TL top up, I have a current account with Iktisatbank, but would be topping up when in the UK

Is there anyway of buying a bundle at the beginning of a trip with turkcell or telesim- my trips would be between 6 weeks and 8 week in duration each time.

Think I'll pop in to the shops and ask when I come our next week.

thanks for the helps so far, really useful

shame vodafone is cutting their service

Yep, it's Turkcell.

I don't think that you need bother thinking about a Direct Debit, and I use a UK credit or debit card for 'topping up' - just pay the smallest amount that will keep the SIM card active...

They may well have other packages that would suit you better, so best ask in the shop!

Really miffed about vodafone dropping Turkey from their roam free destinations
looked at sky
From sky website they don't offer TRNC
You’ll find the complete list of EU/EEA destinations where you can roam at no extra cost below.
Roaming Passport applies when using data or making/receiving a call or sending a message to standard
mobile and landline numbers in the EU/EEA. Calls and messages made or sent from the UK to EU/EEA
numbers are excluded as they are not roaming calls/texts (please see "International Charges" for more
information on how these calls and messages are charged).
Estonia Lithuania Sweden
Germany Malta
Finland Luxembourg
France Madeira
Czech Republic Latvia Slovenia
Denmark Liechtenstein Spain
Croatia Ireland (Republic of) Romania
Cyprus (excl. Nothern Cyprus) Italy Slovakia
Austria Gibraltar Netherlands
Azores Guadeloupe Norway
Belgium Greece Poland
Bulgaria Hungary Portugal
Canary Islands

Looking at the link http://www.sky.com/shop/roaming/ it clearly states that Cyprus (North) is included.

Yet on the pdf document of their latest tariffs it say exactly the opposite !

http://www.sky.com/shop/terms-condition ... 4Feb18.pdf

Some one has messed up I think and my money would be that the pdf is correct and the webpage list is not. Someone should ask sky really.

Have come into this thread a bit late in the day and this may be totally irrelevant so apologies in advance: I am with Vodafone and have been asking them where I stand with regard to roam free and North Cyprus. They have confirmed in writing to me this week that NORTH Cyprus is included in my roam free services - I've yet to test the process!!

Received by text yesterday...
Hello. On 10 May 2018 we'll be adding 42 extra countries to Roam-further and moving 3 countries (Albania, Bosnia and Turkey) from Roam-free to Roam-further. Based on your previous usage, these roaming changes mean you can end your agreement without penalty. We really hope you'll stay, but to discuss leaving please call 03333042614 by 6 May 2018. Rest assured, if you go abroad you'll receive a text with all the charges. Visit http://www.vodafone.co.uk/travelling to find out more.

Spoke to vodaphone a few days ago and they said that as they were taking away Turkey from my package I had 3 options.
1..cancel my contract and keep my phone
2..go sim only
3..they pay for all charges from abroad until end October
I phoned today and they said they would honour what they told me but they are now in talks to continue to include Turkey.
I have one week to decide what I want to do.

The 'Talks' sound a bit vague - I would be inclined to let them carry the extra cost for as long as they are willing, and if there is no progress by then, cancel your contract and go payg sim only, using a cheap phone.

Get a Turkcell sim put in your current phone, and one of their packages, which are good value - you can either have a contract or payg, whichever suits.

P.s. I take it that you do live full time in TRNC? - You didn't actually say...

Hi, we live in the U.K. but spend as much time in trnc as we can. It worked out really well last year with the Vodafone that we didn’t need to use our turkcell phone.
I only have a week that they will honour changing my contract because it’s 99% going back to Turkey included. She said they realised they had upset a lot of people. It will pay me to change as I can keep the phone which I haven’t covered the cost of it. Go back on sim only that will give me Turkey calls.
Just letting others know who are also in a contract with Vodafone

Agree this is all very unsatisfactory and confusing as I have challenged them re Turkish networks and they subsequently confirmed in writing to me that my Roam Free will apply to North Cyprus - I wait to see!!

Hi all.

First post here and want to add that Vodafone today confirmed that all of Cyprus is now included in their Europe Free Zone. As far as I can see this applies to all packages.

Thank you Shaung, that's useful to know. I'm thinking of changing from Tesco to Vodafone to benefit from being able to use my UK allowance in NC.
