Re: Sky Tv
Well.....
My understanding is that they never were, technically, transmitting to Cyprus, - it was just that the beam was not sufficiently focused to enable them to adequately exclude us (as they are obliged to do for copyright and distribution reasons) from their broadcasts. This simultaneously reduces the amount of limited & expensive solar power needed for transmission...
They have, with the changes in satellites, transponders, and 'beam widths', managed to effectively meet those obligations.
I cannot see that they would deliberately reverse that situation.
In my opinion, the only hope of receiving those programmes (100% legitimately) by satellite in the future will be if someone (a Nation State, or a private company, for instance) is willing to pay for the privilege of receiving specific programme material, and re-broadcasting it - which would obviously be from one of the satellites with beams that cover Cyprus - Hotbird, nilesat, whatever...
As those transmissions would be licenced, a fee would be levied, and the transmissions would be encrypted - reception in those circumstances would most definitely not be 'free to air' and not be via a 'giant' 4.2M dish or (probably) be via a current 'SKY' receiver'.
That is not to say that they couldn't (eventually) be hacked
...Just my opinion, of course...
No doubt, someone will be along in a minute or so with a solution
