Red Palm Weevil Lapta

- Found in a Phoenix Palm in Lapta. Palm treated and half a dozen dead Weevils evident. Will moniter and re treat with a systemic insecticide for any living grubs.

Well done if you manage to save the tree. We lost ours many years ago and the restaurant next door lost theirs shortly afterwards. By the time we realised that we had a problem, the tree was dead.

I'm determined to do everything I can to save the palm and its neighbours as I had selected and grown them myself from seed and they produce the most ecellent quality edible dates. I discovered the intruders by chance when I was removing the bags I had put on to protect the bunches after pollination and saw an adult emerging from a leaf axil.
