What has our hedge suffered?

Top shots have become black.
Looks like frozen but here where we are has been no frost.
See pics and if anyone knows, please tell what can be done.

I would, if you can, have a word with Sue at her plant stall at Chateau Lambousa market, Saturday market. She is on the left, past the clothes stall just after entering the archway from the main hotel car park.

we'll be back beginning January and follow your advice.
Meanwhile have cut off every single black shoot hoping it will help.
